How About a Non-Conventional Approach to Health?

How About a Non-Conventional Approach to Health?

It would appear that Western culture is at last beginning to recognize the enormous potential of natural health alternatives, which entail nothing more than the use of natural methods for the treatment and prevention of disease.

Herbal cures, massage, acupuncture, aromatherapy, meditation, and so on are all examples of natural treatments.  In a nutshell, anything that treats illness by addressing the whole person—mind, body, soul, and environment—and that relies solely on natural means.

The idea places a strong emphasis on prevention.  Western medicine is reactive in nature, meaning it mostly focuses on treating symptoms after they have already occurred.  In contrast, natural methods are more proactive in their emphasis on healthy practices that might avert problems before they even arise.

For far too long, our medical community's haughty and intransigent refusal to acknowledge that anything "natural" could be just as effective as the synthetic alternatives was, in retrospect, both naive and dumb.

Unlike medicines, which can cause serious and often fatal adverse effects, many of these natural therapies have been around for a long time and have plenty of evidence that they work.

Many pharmaceuticals are actually merely synthetic versions of natural plant compounds, which is the most paradoxical part.  Essentially, the pharmaceutical industry discovered that a specific herb helped alleviate a specific ailment, and then they figured out how to mimic the herb's curative qualities in a synthetic form.  And the whole time they are claiming that these natural cures are useless and even harmful!

The encouraging thing is that alternative medicine is seeing a significant upturn in popularity.  Some of these treatments are even starting to make their way into the practices of many mainstream doctors.  For instance, these days it is not unusual for a doctor to recommend a chiropractor.

This newfound openness to exploring other approaches to healthcare is commendable and, frankly, inevitable.  Drugs with FDA approval have been recalled in recent times, and some of these cases have garnered significant media attention.  The numerous negative consequences of many of the medications our doctors provided us have long been known to us, but we ignored them.

Because my mom was on so many drugs, some of which had serious adverse effects, she ended up taking even more medication to manage them.

There has never been a better moment to investigate natural health alternatives than right now, when so many people are interested in returning to their roots and becoming environmentally conscious.  These treatments have a long history of use and aim to address the full person by addressing their mental, physical, and spiritual health simultaneously.  To keep yourself healthy, look for a doctor in your area that is willing to consider all of your options and has an open mind.
